Our Story
Uzi Tamu started with a simple realization: most of what we throw away isn’t finished. A torn shirt, an old pair of jeans, fabric scraps left over from another project — they’re not trash, they’re just materials waiting for someone to see what they could still become.
What we Believe
We don’t see “waste” the way most people do. We see unfinished design. Every discarded garment still has shape, texture, and material worth working with — it just needs a different pair of hands and a bit of imagination.
We also believe upcycling isn’t only about the products we make. It’s about shifting a mindset — helping people see their old clothes as a resource rather than rubbish, and giving them real, easy ways to act on that: buy something upcycled, donate fabric instead of discarding it, or learn to do it themselves.
Message From The Founder
I got into upcycling when I started making bags and accessories from old jeans that could no longer be worn. Rather than throwing them away as trash, I began patching different pieces together to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Later, I started sourcing second-hand clothes that were dead stock — items that couldn’t be sold — sorting and cleaning them before giving them the same treatment. That’s really how this journey into upcycling began.
I have a keen eye for design, crafting a brand that reflects my commitment to both quality and eco-consciousness. My journey from a corporate environment to the world of textiles exemplifies the power of following one’s passion, and UZI TAMU stands as a testament to my unwavering commitment to sustainability, creativity, and the celebration of African culture
